You Had Me at Hello: PLL Evidence-Based Family Treatment Model
Engaging parents and children in services is challenging. No-shows, defensiveness and resistance to change are just some of the blocks professionals need to overcome. Research also demonstrates active parental participation is the missing link to preventing high risk youth from entering into out-of-home placement or relapsing once they transition home. The PLL Evidence-Based Family Treatment Model conceptualizes symptoms in terms of family interactions, prioritizing family relationships as the primary site of intervention. Join us to learn how this model’s approach starts from the first interaction with the parents and youth using key motivational questions. PLL experiences an 80% successful family engagement rate and an 83% completion rate using these proven techniques in the PLL model are to serve families – both parents and youth at risk of being removed into placement or families where there is a youth in placement.
Presenter: Founder and Developer Dr. Scott Sells & Executive Director Alison Blodgett
PLL combines group therapy and family therapy to treat children and adolescents aged 10-18 who have severe emotional and behavioral problems (e.g., conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder) and frequently co-occurring problems such as depression, alcohol or drug use, chronic truancy, destruction of property, domestic violence, or suicidal ideation. The program also has been used with teenagers with less extreme behaviors. PLL is also used to serve as an alternative to a residential placement for youth as well as with youth returning back from residential placement such as commitment programs, halfway houses, group homes, or foster homes. PLL teaches families how to reestablish adult authority through consistent limits while reclaiming a loving relationship.
