2.0 Ethics Credit Hours
This class is currently not available for credit in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, and South Carolina.
To understand, appreciate, and abide by the District of Columbia Rules of Professional Conduct, an attorney needs to be less Einstein and more Dr. Seuss. This program will demystify and deconstruct some of the oft-times theoretical and abstract rules of professional conduct, and replace them with practical and basic guidelines. Through an examination of recent D.C. cases, as well as certain notable disciplinary decisions from around the country, we will discuss:
- Conflicts of interest
- Confidentiality concerns
- Candor to the tribunal
- Responsibilities of partners, managers, and supervisory practitioners
- Unauthorized practice of law
- Attorney misconduct.
- At the conclusion of the program, attendees will be able to identify and process ethical issues that may arise in the representation of a client, and employ various techniques to avoid these same traps, gaps, and mishaps in their own practice.
